The Duck Race may be over for 2019 but the memories will live on for ever

Well what a lovely time was had by all it seems. We certainly witnessed the biggest crowds for Swindon’s Famous Duck Race and Family Day Out that has now been running for 20 years!

From very small beginnings a simple afternoon featuring the Duck Race to now a Whole Family Day Out with a funfair, Fun Dog Show presented by Blue Cross and over 35 stalls and charities running everything from Tombolas to Face-painting. There was all manner of food outlets letting you choose from Afternoon teas, burgers and chips, candyfloss and ice cream and scrumptious coffee.

And then the Racing with Drake Race for local businesses and this year won by Occulus Wealth Management and then the big event taking the getting 11,000 ducks into the river.

President Roy checked they were all aboard the digger for the journey up to the bridge over the river. He was accompanied by Caroline Crawford and Tanya Orr of Willows Counselling Service Roy’s major charity for his year.

Sitting on 11,000 ducks

It was a slow, yet majestic swim along the River Ray to the finishing line, plenty of time for the watchers to watch, and watch, and watch… Among the ducks there was a secret media camera created by pupils of Goddard Park School floating on a raft and sweeping around 360 degrees of the river. We can’t wait to see the footage once its in the can.

So when can we see it again I’m sure you are thinking. We are coming back again next year bigger and better and on the late Bank Holiday Monday 25 May. We hope to see you there.

Thank you to everyone who participated this year. Check out lots of pictures taken on the day at Swindon’s Famous Duck Race Facebook page

We also had some great press coverage from BBC Wiltshire and the Swindon Advertiser Thanks so much guys.
